Privacy
Plain English, no dark patterns. If anything here is unclear, email us.
What we store
- Your messaging-platform user id (e.g. your Telegram id, or your phone number when you sign up by SMS) so we can message you back.
- Your latitude and longitude (used to compute prayer times locally) and your IANA timezone.
- Your prayer-time settings: calculation method, madhab, reminder offset.
- The last 20 turns of your conversation with the bot, so it can keep context.
SMS specifics
When you sign up for prayer reminders by text, we additionally store:
- Your phone number — encrypted at rest, used only to send your reminders and accept your replies.
- Whether you've opted out (e.g. by replying STOP), so we never message you again unless you opt back in.
- Delivery status from the carrier (delivered / failed) so we can stop retrying a number that's no longer reachable.
We don't share your phone number with third parties. The only external party that touches it is our SMS provider, which delivers the message to your carrier.
What we don’t store
- Your full message history beyond the rolling 20-turn buffer.
- Your contacts, your other chats, or anything outside the conversation with our bot.
- Anything we don’t need to deliver a prayer reminder.
What we never log
Your latitude and longitude are never written to logs. Your bot token, our API keys, and the bodies of your messages are never logged at info level or above.
Third parties
We don’t share your data with third parties. Prayer times are computed locally on our servers using the open-source adhan library — no external prayer-time API ever sees your location.
How to delete your data
Send “delete me” to the bot in Telegram, reply STOP to a Salah Buddy text, and we'll wipe your account on the spot. Or email denizhanyigitbas@gmail.com and we'll do it for you.
